People at Work: Fish Vendor

Cochin lies on the coast, and fish is naturally an integral part of the diet. One can go to the nearest market for fish, but there are also vendors who will bring it to your door. I’ve seen several of them over the years, and they share some common traits. They invariably travel on bicycles (though our hero here uses a motorcycle), and employ an air horn to announce their arrival in a neighborhood. The best bargains are snapped up quickly.

Keralites prefer sea fish to freshwater fish, unlike Bengalis. Favorite fish in Kerala are karimeen and nei meen. The big fish in the photo below is agoli.
