Blue Power

The picture below shows the all-powerful men in blue of Kerala. They are headload workers who are members of the Marxist trade union, CITU. Nothing moves in Kerala without their say-so. You have a shipment of furniture for your new house? You can trust these guys to land up at your doorstep and demand the privilege of unloading the furniture. You will not be allowed to make your own arrangements for unloading. Rather, you can, but must still pay them for watching you unload the goods. There is even a word for this: nokkukuli. This translates as payment for watching. Bizarre? This is Kerala!
