Kerala Bumber Lottery

A retired English professor told me this story. She was dining in a local eatery when she saw written on the menu board fixed to the wall, a food item called “Pups.” She was aghast at first, but illumination soon dawned. The food item in question was “Puffs.” The pronunciation in Malayalam is often “pups,” I think (Malayalam is not my strong suit), and the spelling had been phonetically rendered. The professor pointed out the error to the manager of the eatery, and to his credit, the error was corrected.

Look at the bright side, though: It could well have been “Kerala Bummer Lottery.” 🙂
