The Scream of a Butterfly

One day I saw this shiny blue jewel lying in the front yard of my house. The initiated will recognize it as the wing of the Common Bluebottle, a large, striking butterfly that is constantly on the move, fluttering its wings even when sipping nectar from a flower, as though it can’t wait to take to the air again. It’s a rapid, dazzling flyer, and looks like a little blue comet when doing its thing in the air. You can see the Common Bluebottle in all its blue finery here: The Elusive Common Bluebottle.

As I stood looking down, pondering the mystery of what could have parted the wing from its owner, I thought I heard a scream of agony in the distance.
