Snoring Competition

I didn’t know snoring competitions existed, but here it is in black and white in the sleep book (Counting Sheep: The Science and Pleasures of Sleep and Dreams):

In a snoring competition (sic) held in England in 1992, one Melvin Switzer gave birth to a 92-decibel snore, which is louder than a motorbike revving at close quarters and enough to induce hearing loss in anyone exposed to it for too long. According to one account, Mr. Switzer’s wife is deaf in one ear.
