Mosquito Nets for Street Walkers

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this in my path. It looked like something alien that had dropped from the skies. Then I figured it out. A portable mosquito net. And I remembered a story in The Hindu about the North Indian street vendors who sell these eye-catching mosquito nets. They’ve come to the right place: Cochin, the mosquito capital of the country.

  1. I have also noticed these nets for sale in the streets of Ernakulam but couldn’t work out for whom they were meant. My only idea was that folk who prefer to sleep in their garden might be targeted as consumers.
Perhaps toddy shops could sell them – to clientele unable to stagger all the way home..

    • These nets are collapsible and portable. So, if you travel frequently to mosquito-infested places, you could carry one of these along. Also, bachelors staying in lodges could buy one and take it along whenever they change their accommodation. The alternative is to size a net to match your bed, which is fine for those tied down to one bed. But it just won’t do for free spirits who flit freely from bed to bed. Note: I’m not getting a commission from these guys; just saying is all šŸ™‚

  2. Well, free spirit or not, it appears that by using such nets we might be affecting the course of mosquito evolution – at least according to this article!
