Kerala has a rich tradition in cartooning; all the acerbic wit and the innate talent for ridiculing others that the Malayali has in plenty find a creative outlet in the cartoons he produces. Here are a couple of examples of political cartoons exhibited on the street. I can’t read Malayalam, but the pictures speak eloquently for themselves.
The top picture shows a housewife using her cooking gas cylinder as a firewood holder; yes, the price of cooking gas has increased by leaps and bounds recently. And the poster below caricatures proposals to privatize water distribution, I think — which will send the household water bill soaring.
