Orange-Tailed Marsh Dart in My Garden

Shoepics 235_edited_2

The rains stayed away for the past four days, but it rained all night yesterday, and upon my return from school, I found this damselfly in my garden. As you can see, its great big eyes are watching the camera closely, but it stayed put. This is a damselfly with nerves of steel; it allows close approaches. Damselflies are smaller and slimmer than their more famous fellow odonates, the dragonflies, but they have a muted elegance that their more muscular cousins lack.
